Real estate in France – French Riviera

The popularity of real estate on the French Riviera has historical roots.

At the end of the 18th century, the mild climate of the French Riviera was discovered by the British, who enjoyed spending the winter season here.

In the early 19th century, Russian royals followed the English aristocrats. Few people know that we owe the discovery of the French Riviera to the French painter from Nice, Joseph Fricero.

Prince Gagarin, a friend of the royal family and son of the Russian ambassador in Rome, met him and invited him to St. Petersburg. Fricero was introduced to the capital's aristocracy and began giving painting lessons to Josephine, the illegitimate daughter of Nicholas I.

The love between the student and the teacher culminated in marriage in France and a move to Nice, where the royal family came to visit the newlyweds.

At first, English and Russian aristocrats rented the most beautiful villas on the French Riviera for a few months. After several seasons and the firmly established fashion for the French Riviera, they began to build their own palaces, castles, and churches.

The most surprising thing is that today, just like 200 years ago, Russians and the British are among the most active buyers of real estate on the French Riviera.

Buy real estate on the French Riviera: a second home or primary residence?

Buying a villa or apartment on the French Riviera has become a quite commonplace reality.

Who doesn't live on the French Riviera: oligarchs and politicians in luxurious villas, regular programmers working in Sophia Antipolis, political refugees from Chechnya, the new Russian bourgeoisie who can afford to buy a summer house on the French Riviera, and ordinary entrepreneurs who have the opportunity to manage their business remotely and live wherever they want.

While the majority of wealthy people from all over the world have a home on the French Riviera to vacation for a few months a year, we cannot help but notice that more and more foreigners are inclined to settle thoroughly on the French Riviera.

For vacations and a second home, clients prefer the most elite resort towns, such as Villefranche, Beaulieu, Cap Ferrat, and Cap d'Ail.

For a primary home, most clients buy real estate in larger cities like Nice or Cannes.

If clients from Russia are thinking about the possibility of year-round residence on the French Riviera, then besides the wonderful climate, there is everything here to turn your dream into reality:

  • English-language schools, bilingual schools (English-French), as well as Russian schools for supplementary education.
  • Excellent hospitals on the French Riviera and in Monaco, a growing number of Russian-speaking doctors, and giving birth on the French Riviera is generally a trendy topic.
  • Russian stores where you can buy everything from our Soviet childhood: buckwheat, cottage cheese, stuffed cabbage rolls and honey cake, caviar, and kefir.
  • Russian churches and the active life of the Russian parish.

Many of our clients have long understood that the French Riviera is not only  a summer house and summer vacations on a yacht, but a worthy place to live and raise children.
